For many the arrival of September is welcomed with open arms, for others it is a sad good bye to the brilliance of summer time.
In mid August, kids begin to prepare for that first day of school with new clothes, back packs and school supplies. Moms pulll out their trusty calendars and begin to chart the beginning of new activities, play dates and school meetings. It is the return of making lunches, after school extra curriculars, reading journals and calendar math. It is the return of the routine and the end of carefree summer days, late nights and dips in the pool that will do for a bath time routine.
So is it the most wonderful time of the year? There is something to be said for routine, and schedules…and earlier bedtimes! Who doesn't love summer and it's warm days, barefoot play and lazy mornings….but let's be honest, for moms, summer can also be exhausting. Trips in and out of the pool, up and down the slide, the constant suncreen application, bug spray application, band aid application…from sun up to the very late sun down.
To the moms sending their children off for the first time, chin up! You will grow to love these days of getting them on and off the bus, hearing about their day and pinning up their special work on the fridge. To the moms sending their children off once again, congrats you survived another summer, enjoy the 'first day of school' cup of coffee.
To all the kids have a super fun awesome sparkly first day of school! These are the most wonderful days of your lives.
